Linda Federman is a wonderful writer who is new to us at Devil’s Party Press.
Here is an excerpt from her poem that appears in Aurora:
SUNRISE COMMUNION
out on the patio
4 a.m.
surrendered to sleeplessness.
The moon
swollen and lustrous as pearl
suspended in a periwinkle sky swallowing stars.
Come, the ocean called
from further away
than ears could receive.
But I heard.
Down to the sand
like graham cracker crumbs
tractor-combed furrows anticipating footprints.
Come.
Louder now.
As if the waves were
crashing
in my courtyard,
crashing
in my head.
